Hair: An Exhibition
>> Saturday, April 21, 2007
Oh yeah! I blog sometimes! A few things have been going on, but certainly no excuse to stop my online journal of life. So…? What's new? I'm moving into my house in a week! And I'm getting razors in my eyes in three days. No big deal. I'm just hardcore like that.
So a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity again to hair model for the Allied Beauty Alliance Exhibition! I have modeled in this hair show twice previously (once in
Before shot:
No, seriously.
After shot:
The crew that worked on me was your usual hairdresser-y types…artsy, funny, stylish and slightly homosexual (the men, that is). The day of the show was an early one and the people hoarded in by the truckload. The show is held at the Pan Pacific Hotel and Vancouver Convention Centre:
We are in the sails!
Basically the show is where all the major hair companies set up stages and they showcase the latest techniques, styles and products for the attendees. I didn't have too much to do that day since I wasn't a presentation model, so I read lots of comic books and milled about. Peeking out of our dressing room area, I did take a few pictures before the day began.
This stage was ours.
I modeled for them my first year at the show. They are awesome as well.
The other models were much younger than me (hello, 16-20 years old…) and some the conversations made that quite obvious:
Girl: "Like, I don't want to marry a garbageman, ya know?!"
Me: "Why not? They are city employees and probably have excellent compensation packages."
Girl: "Well…I guess he would have a hot body, right?!? I mean, like, tossing garbage all day!?"
Another:
Girl: "Like, there was this guy who hit on me on the skytrain and he was, like, really gross. I like this guy named Justin. But he just broke up with his girlfriend but he likes me anyways!! But I just broke up with my boyfriend so I told him I wasn't ready for a boyfriend. But then he told me that he'd wait for me. He said he'd wait all summer if I made him."
They were all really good people though.
Note: Neither above two girls were the one mentioned previously.
I got my hair cut on stage and it is very interesting. I call it a fashionable mullet – it's short on top and short-ish on the sides, but party in the back.
After the show was over and I said my goodbyes and promised to come back next year, I hustled over to the shops and quickly loaded up on cheap hair goods:
Since I didn't know anyone else, I proceeded to wander about and take pictures (of mostly myself…)
I can tell they picked me because of my innate posing ability.
After the show, it was off to the skytrain and head home. Since I was at the first stop, I scored one of the sweetest seats – the back seat facing the window out.
Wheeeee! Or at least I had fun. Since it's been a few weeks, my hair looks faded and boring again, but at least I got a guy that charges $300 a haircut to cut mine for free! Lest we forget though, he cut me a mullet. At least it's a hot mullet.
I should get packing though. I have quite a bit to do yet before next weekend comes. I wanted to go for yakiniku this weekend but I have to hear from Jean regarding such matters…
