Free Hot Dogs!
>> Monday, August 2, 2010
After you’ve driven more than reasonably expected within a 24 hour period, you crash. This isn’t exactly a scientific conclusion, but it was kind of ridiculous how tired I was. The bed was a double and the room was tiny, but I’m not sure I even noticed. I awoke late the next morning to sun and surf. Hooray for summer vacation at the lake!
August long weekend at Moose Lake means family fun day – an afternoon activity with all kinds of activities and things, but I’m just here for the free hot dogs. Oh yeah, and to have my leather Chloe sandals showered by some kid tossing a water balloon. I kind of shot him a look that said “drop dead”. Deep down, I’m a nice person, really! I promise.
The star of the show!
The big event culminated with the most competitive event I’d ever seen Marty’s mom get so excited for – the tug-of-war between the east and west sides of the lake. The east got schlepped.
Well, that was enough excitement for one day. I’m at the lake, remember? I drove 5000 miles to be here and now I’m going to kick it. The rest of the crew headed back to the events in the evening for the baseball game, but I wandered around the homestead to capture a bit of Manitoba to take back with me. Who knows when I’ll be back here?
I trapped this one in the wild myself. Or something like that.
After taking that montage, I focused my energies on funnier photo pursuits – namely, that of transforming the people around me into, well, other people. HA HA.
Kyler
Tori
Tracy
Cole! HA HA HA Best one yet.
After another sleep, I woke up to go paddling on these board things and ended up getting bitched out from shore by a guy in a mullet whose line I had apparently caught. Um…what? I totally paddled around their pink spray-painted milk jug in the water. I said sorry but he wasn’t having it. And then I was late for a waffle lunch. Let’s hope the day gets better from this.
I spent the afternoon in bed watching the movie “Bandage” on my computer.
The night culminated with a boat ride – yayyyyyy! I love boat rides. My hair gets all greasy (or maybe it was already beforehand?) and I just feel like screaming.

Ooh! My favourite sunsets are in Manitoba. Click to enlarge.
We’re back.
There are a few things at the cabin that are very…”cabin-ish”. It’s great! I feel so authentic when I come here. Take, for example, your token duck phone.
Um….HOW SWEET IS THAT?
And an indigenous eagle painted on a stretched leather hide:
Yeah, enough said.
Here’s Shasta (yes, like the soda beverage):
After yet another sleep, we’ve reached Monday and our departure. However, first we eat more hot dogs, catch dead fishes, and go on another boat ride.
Gross!
Yum!
The very cause of swimmers itch. Ew…Marty totally got it.
Yay!
My little sidekick. Ha ha…I’m sure he’d be so pleased to hear me say that. Or not.
Marty, giving the tube a test run; failing.
This picture signifies the curtains closing on our cabin adventure. But first, let’s check back in with baby Will.
Bye, Baby Will!
And off we zoomed to our hometown, Altona, for more adventures. I wasn’t ready to get back in the car just yet, but if I wait, that moment might never come…
