(Day 5) It's a Small, Splashy, Haunted World
>> Thursday, September 9, 2010
Our day two journey over to Disney brought us again through the hallway of heat at Tokyo station – I tried so desperately to avoid this place and yet somehow we missed a turn somewhere and ended up here. Worst. The stale, hot air was just as suffocating as yesterday and I thought I was going to die (no surprise there.) Now, you might think that I’m a complainer when things get slightly uncomfortable – this is true. However, when things get really really bad, I just shut up entirely and mutter to myself because just talking in general makes me even hotter. This was a muttering-type of experience. BUT we did eventually get to Disney – along without about 10,000,000 other people. Yes, the long hike from the train to the park was loaded with peoples…
We split up again this time – I was to high-tail it over to Splash Mountain for fast passes and the sisters were supposed to head over the Blue Bayou for dinner reservations. On my solo hike, I took some shots of what Disney is like on the FIRST DAY OF HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS. Why did we come today again? Oh yeah, because we didn’t know people cared so much about Halloween decorations and everyone was kitted-out in their costume best.
I kind of want some furry Donald Duck pants.
Everyone’s waiting for the parade.
After grabbing the fast passes and meeting up, we headed out to wander…somewhere.
Like, rad costumes! Where can I get one…? No really, where?
Eventually our fast passes came up for Splash Mountain and I couldn’t have been more thrilled. MY FAVORITE!!! Yeeeehaaaw!
Do you know unbelievably hard it is to keep a straight face when the boat heads down the chute? Eeeeeeeeeek! Ah, funnest ride of my life. Our next was ‘It’s a Small World’ – another boat ride, albeit very different…
Like I said when I went to DisneyWorld earlier this year, this ride used to be my all-time, until-death favourite when I was six. SIX. At least the version in Japan looks a little newer and shinier than the US version. C’mon…ride with me…
After realizing it’s a small world, we headed over to….ba-ba-ba-daaaa! Captain EO! I watched this on my first trip to Disneyland ever, when I was what, six? Man, lots of memories when I was six. Anyway, all I remember is being freaked out by this hand coming out at me and so I covered my face with my Dad’s cap. I was so scared. This time, I think (hope) I can handle it. Yay!
What nostalgia. It was just soooooo ‘80s. Like, dancing gets rid of evil! Oh MJ. You were a pioneer.
Turns out our reservation for the Blue Bayou was at lunch and so we headed over to enjoy some ridiculously expensive and small meals. Oh Japan.
The Blue Bayou is a restaurant that’s actually IN the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It’s sort of an outdoor patio, indoors. It’s bizarre, but pretty.
I think this salad was like, 800 yen (~$10) – why? Oh yeah, because we are at Disney. It was good though.
After our expensive lunch of tiny little foods, we made our way to the Haunted Mansion which was all decked-out in its Halloween best with the ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ theme. I’ve been on this ride more during holidays than any other time – what’s the regular ride like?
I love the part when they show you with a ghost! Favorite ever! (Though again, when I was six, this terrified me to the extent I needed my Dad’s cap again.)
So we went on the merry-go-round. I mean, so what if we displace a few little kids and make them wait a bit longer? I’ll still be able to sleep at night.
As soon as they let us through the gates, we were trampling little kids to get the best spots on the outer circle. And we did!
I was taking pictures of everyone! Yippeee!
This horse was really givin’r.
Some Big Thunder Mountain was next – so much screaming! We are good at that.
More parades and then Pooh’s Hunny Hunt.
WINNIPEG REPRESENT!
My favourite part of the ride is when Pooh is sleeping and then starts tumbling through the starry sky. It’s so trippy like I’m on acid. But all my pictures are blurry…like I would have been on acid.
Oh Pooh-p! Sis tried desperately to search the gift shop for Pooh ears, but she was S.O.L.
We decided to do some shopping as night began to fall and meandered the park…you know, some more.
Despite not being a big fan of the parades, I actually really enjoy the electrical parades at Disney. I like shiny things though, so this isn’t saying much.
Oh Poohp.
Haa….on a side note, I think some of guys who play the princes at Disney have been spotted at that night club that I go to in Japan…and they really look douchey. Ew.
As the parade came to close, we dashed over to the Haunted Mansion for another go with the ghosts. Here’s me, with mine.
Chee-zu!
We headed to dinner next, at where else than the Queen of Hearts ? We are huge Alice in Wonderland fans.
I wanted to eat at this place last time I was here, but it was like, 40 degrees in there and all they seemed to selling was ham shanks. I don’t know.
Japanese cheesecake.
Our dying wish (of the day) was to ride on Splash Mountain once more. Waiting until the bitter end of the parks hours, we assumed it would be easy-peasy…no dice. Everyone and their dog and they same idea and the line stretched further than ever. Ew. But we killed it.
Yes, I am “vogue”-ing it.
So we packed it in and headed back into the city. In case you were wondering, yes, the weather was still hot. But it doesn’t stick out in my memory as one of the hottest days, so it was likely only, like, 35 degrees or something cool like that. Yeah.
Well, tomorrow we are going to be lazy-asses and just sleep until we get up. I know, crazy. Then it’s off to Shibuya. Whatever. We’ll spend money.

I'm wearing the same shirt today as that day! What a coincidence. Your parade pictures turned out so much clearer than mine - jealous. What a day!
