Afternoon in the Orchard (Part 5)
>> Thursday, February 9, 2012
Across the courtyard from Brett’s apartment, was a coffee shop called Jimmy Monkey that I decided to begin my Singaporean adventures inside. Brunch was a latte, pasta, and lots of intellectual books.
See? Intellectual.
So.much.oil.
I rolled myself into a taxi which brought me across town to shopping paradise on Orchard Road (not to be confused with Orchard Towers, which apparently has prostitutes in it – also the place I originally tagged in my instagram. Boo.)
For some bizarre reason, the Hilton has this amazing set of designer shops in it - Dries Van Noten, Comme des Garcons, Balenciaga, Jil Sander…UGH. Unfortunately, the prices were even more obscene than in HK, so I trudged solemnly out and headed for cheaper waters. Did you know Zara is a tourist attraction for Chinese people in Singapore? Apparently so.
I caught this weird pervy nerd-face staring out at me from the Prada display at the store. BOOO!
In the heat, my brain literally becomes mush…I walked extra-far to the Dhoby Gaut station when I could have saved myself 10 minutes and got on the train at Somerset. Wahh! My life!
JACKETS. GLOVES. /MINDBLOWN
That haziness is my camera fogging up on the cool train. Praise the Lord, I’m still alive!
One North. Only a few more steps until I hit air con!
Neighbour likes Banksy.
So I basically sat in front of the aircon until Brett was finished work and then we headed to Holland Villages’ Aji no Mori for a Japanese feast, complete with two bottles of sake. いただきます indeed.
Holland Town, overall, didn’t feel very dutch...
After dins, we returned to Brett’s apartment, where I convinced him that he absolutely MUST watch ‘Dirty Work’. Most classic film of 1998. How he managed to fall asleep during Norm MacDonald’s comic genius is beyond me.
Tomorrow I will do more Singaporean stuff, like go to a mall and eat a hot dog. Classic Singaporean.
