Tooth Relic (Part 6)

Though I was in the midst of enjoying what was arguably paradise, I couldn’t neglect the fact that it was still hockey season in North America and the Canucks needed my support. So I set the alarm clock and made sure I was awake for the 9:00 AM game (GMT+8). Unfortunately, my ability to stream the game was hampered by my ancient computer and its decrepit processor. The good news was that I could head out on the balcony and still see this:
All in all, wasn’t too bad of a crib to hanging about in for a lazy morning…
Once I finally managed to pull myself out of the house (the heat – or potential heat – takes so much energy out of me), I boarded the train and headed south to the giant mall on the harbour, Vivocity. I celebrated my arrival with a superdog.
This place had all kinds of bizarre rules for eating a hotdog. Is there really such a thing as the ‘National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, USA’?
I grabbed a water from a grocery store appropriately titled “Giant”, and headed out to view the…view, and the sculptures on the boardwalk.
(This baby eventually made it onto canvas. She’s a beaut!)
It’s basically a rule of life to have one coffee a day and I was so surprised to find a Gloria Jean’s café. I seriously thought it was solely a K-cup thing…
After the breather inside, I dared to head up to the roof. What to find? A whole water feature thingy.
Racing motor boats on the roof of a mall. Yeah, this makes sense.
I picked up a few clothing items, dropped them off at the apt, and then headed to Chinatown. Singapore’s Chinatown is supposed to be a real piece of work.
Subway train wall says no durians. So don’t do it! They are gross anyway.
This is the Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore’s oldest Hindu temple.
Lil pudgy tums.
The major draw in Chinatown was for sure the Buddha Tooth Relic temple (its real name!)
The colours throughout Chinatown really popped against the bright sky. Lots of trinkets and do-hickeys to be had.
Eventually I got the call from B-Mal to head on over to 83 on Club Street where the fellows were partaking in libations. I walked for a whole long while, and passed this cool hawker centre.
Then I walked some more. I really shouldn’t have left Chinatown, then came back through Tanjong Pagar. Wahh!
After some drinks, we headed to some Italian place for dinner. The two things I remember most were that 1) I had lasagna, and 2) the men were particularly infatuated with our waitress, who wore one of those tight bandage dresses.
Tomorrow is Saturday, and B-Mal’s got the day off. I’m pretty sure that means a trip to the Mustafa Centre is in order. What is it? I don’t know either! Yay!
