At the end of July, the man and I packed up and headed east to visit our family and friends, summertime-style, in our homeland of the gorgeous prairies. However, in order to get there, we needed to…well…get there. Anyone who has made the drive from the west coast to central Canada, knows it’s a long-ass drive. But pretty! Well, some parts, anyway. Likely the parts we’ll drive by at night. On the Thursday night before the August long weekend, after work, we loaded up the car and off we headed into bowels of BC, the gorgeous scenery shrouded in blackness. But we have many hours to go.

When dawn broke, we were through the mountains and heading into Calgary at a chipper 5 AM.

Trying to sleep in the car. Unsuccessfully.

Saskatchewan was, of course, a struggle. I don’t really remember it, which is terrible, because I was driving. Eeek!

Clearly, Moose Jaw. The only place with a Bonanza anywhere.

We finally hit Manitoba and, after 20 hours of driving, finally got close to home. Well, our home for the next few days anyway…

No, I’M AWSM.

Oh yeah! This part of the drive was the point of delirium. I was ad-libbing the creation of church hymns. They were quite good, if I do say so myself. Marty may beg to differ.

The above grainy cell-phone picture of a building meant we had arrived at our destination – the family cabin at Moose Lake! I was stinky, hot, and the humidity began its ravaging. Yay! At least I had a proper place to rest my head, after a shower. I’m like a caveman.

My favourite place at the cabin has to be the dock. Being so close to the water is really cool and it’s pretty peaceful. Unless you have a dog sniffing at your bum. Which I did.

See what I mean?

I also ended the day by meeting a little friend. This is baby Will:

He’s a baby.

So we did more stuff but you don’t care since its old and I’m tried today, so I’ll continue tomorrow. Or another day. I will finish these blogs eventually. I always do! But basically this blog proves my point that we are good at driving long distances. Reasonably. I guess that was my point. Whatever.
