(Day 14) My Vampire

>> Saturday, September 18, 2010

Crammy-cram-cram. That’s what our day will involve – cramming stuff in that we’ve been dawdling about for the past two weeks. It’s Saturday, our last full day in Tokyo and we are mentally preparing for our departure. But first, here’s another view of our messy room in Akasaka that we’ve called home for the past two weeks.

Notice the wayward feet sticking out of the middle bed? It’s kind of impossible to get little B out of bed in the morning. Mine is the made one, of course.

A place I won’t miss is our also crammy-cram-cram bathroom box. We ran all out of kracie soap so now we’ve been using dish detergent.

Our first adventure of the day was making our way to Tameikesanno station and then hopping the next train to Asakusa to visit THE.MOST.FAMOUS.SHRINE in Tokyo. Maybe I’ll pull my hair out.

A little morning NEWS to start the day right.

L1020678

Oh Asakusa – a place that is perpetually sunny and full of people (except at 7:00 AM – I speak from experience.)

I know, I know…I can’t really complain since it IS Saturday and everyone and their dog is out on a Saturday, but I was about ready to lose my mind at this place. When I think shrines, I think peace and serenity, but that is (pardon my French) kind of horseshit today.

That’s it! I’m never coming here again. I’ve been here three times now and that is enough to last anyone a lifetime. Just wait…I’ll be back there again, somehow, when I’m out in December. ACKKK! I hope not. I have such a badditude.

We hopped the train back over to Ueno and headed into my favourite ramen shop again, to unwind. Oh Ichiran, you save the day again.

L1020709

Once we were stuffed full of noodles, we headed down into Ameyokocho to explore the stalls, take more purikura and eat some manju. I love Ameyoko manju.

Have you ever wondered what the inside of a purikura booth looks like? Likely not, I’m guessing, but its not very exciting anyway:

L1020712

And since we were inside one, we took some more purikura…it is our last chance, after all.

Love Sis’s rainbow ‘fro.

MANJU!

L1020720
(It’s starting to look all the same to you…isn’t it? HA HA HA)

L1020723
That guy in the tank top is looking at me.

L1020724

Ameyoko-ed out, we headed back up to Ginza. Why? Oh, well…hee hee hee…you’ll see.

L1020725

L1020726

OH YEAH! I almost forgot. There was suddenly a large crowd of people gathering we were wondering what all the commotion was about. Seriously, there were people running down the street with cameras in their hand. A celebrity? A tragic accident? A person with two faces? Whatever could be causing this commotion?

L1020730

L1020731

No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. That really is cats on a street sign. And you’d think one picture would be enough, but there were some serious photo shoots going on. WHAT ON EARTH!?

L1020734

I mean, …... right? I’m speechless.

So we did some shopping before dinner at OIOI and I found this amazing umbrella – check it out:

L1020735

Totally useless, right? I also bought some really great socks and tights…for $50…how does this happen? It was, like, three pairs. I don’t get it.

For our last supper and to say goodbye, we ended up at this restaurant that can be summed up in two words (which is also coincidentally the name of the place) – Vampire Café.

L1020736

L1020738

So I don’t know if you can tell from the photo above, but that is a giant coffin in the center of the restaurant. This place was mint – a vampire girl in a French maid costume acting as the hostess, and all the waiters were vampires with white and red eyes, dressed in gothic apparel. Best restaurant idea ever!

L1020739
This is our coffin drink menu and call bell. Oh ps – we had our own English-speaking vampire slave boy!

L1020740
A bat on top of our salad.

L1020742
A crunchy hand in our pasta!

L1020743
There’s one of the vampires now! It was really hard to get a good picture in all the dark red lights.

L1020746
Heart tarts with top hats…like, what? Only in Tokyo.

L1020748

After settling the bill, we actually parted ways in Ginza – I went home to pack and Sis and B headed over to Harajuku for a final crepe…or three? Ha ha ha. I’m such a party-pooper, but the goods aren’t going to pack themselves. So, until tomorrow…

L1020751

…good night from Ginza!
